Features:

The Radioactive decay is a nuclear physics software, which facilitates to visualise and understand how the rate of decay takes place for any given half-life period. The software shows the following real time graphs.

• Rate of decay Vs Time

• Number of atoms decayed Vs Time

• Atoms remaining Vs Time

How to start with Radioactive Decay software ?

• Open Genius Maker software and click "Radioactive decay" button. It opens the Radioactive decay window.
• On opening you will see an array of 2048 atoms on the top-right portion and  a default value is entered for half-life period.
• You will see the graph representing the decay of these 2048 atoms at the rate of the entered half-life period.
• Just click "Start" button.
• You will notice that the atoms starts decaying and the decay process is shown on real time basis in the graph area as well as in the output parameters box. You are free to change the graph while decay process is going on to a different graph by choosing the required option from the "Select a graph" box.
• Please wait for the decay to complete.  You can understand the decay process, which takes place on a logarithmic scale, needing less time for decay at the beginning and more time at the end.
• If you want to monitor the parameters at any point of time during decay, just click "Pause" button. You will see that the decay process becomes standstill along with real time graph and output parameters. You may now note all the required parameters. Just click "Resume" button to restart the decay process.
• You can stop the decay process at anytime by clicking "Stop" button.

CASE - 1

• Let us evaluate the decay process with a half-life period of 1 second.

• Enter the value of half-life as 1 second.

• Click "Start" button.

• You will notice that the atoms starts decaying and the decay process is shown on real time basis in the graph area as well as in the output parameters box. You are free to change the graph while decay process is going on to a different graph by choosing the required option from the "Select a graph" box.
• In the present case with a half-life of 1 second the decay process is fast and takes 12 seconds for the decay of all 2048 atoms.
• Please wait for the decay to complete.  You can understand the decay process, which takes place on a logarithmic scale, needing less time for decay at the beginning and more time at the end.

CASE - 2

• Let us evaluate the decay process with a half-life period of 10 seconds.

• Enter the value of half-life as 10 seconds.

• Click "Start" button.

• You will notice that the atoms starts decaying and the decay process is shown on real time basis in the graph area as well as in the output parameters box. You are free to change the graph while decay process is going on to a different graph by choosing the required option from the "Select a graph" box.
• In the present case with a half-life of 10 seconds the decay process is taking place at a medium rate and takes 120 seconds for the decay of all 2048 atoms. (Please note that, it takes 10 times the time required for case 1.)
• Please wait for the decay to complete.  You can understand the decay process, which takes place on a logarithmic scale, needing less time for decay at the beginning and more time at the end.

CASE - 3

• Let us evaluate the decay process with a half-life period of 100 seconds.

• Enter the value of half-life as 100 seconds.

• Click "Start" button.

• You will notice that the atoms starts decaying and the decay process is shown on real time basis in the graph area as well as in the output parameters box. You are free to change the graph while decay process is going on to a different graph by choosing the required option from the "Select a graph" box.
• In the present case with a half-life of 100 seconds the decay process is taking place at a slow rate and takes 1200 seconds for the decay of all 2048 atoms. (Please note that, it takes 100 times the time required for case 1 and 10 times the time required for case 2.)
• Please wait for the decay to complete or stop it after sometime.  You can understand the decay process, which takes place on a logarithmic scale, needing less time for decay at the beginning and more time at the end.
